High Temperature Hoses

High temperature hoses help many industries perform and survive. A high temperature duct is crucial for handling the heat that is involved and applied in a particular application. Without the right kind of high temperature hoses to carry the heat, there is a significant risk of damage occurring. High temperature hoses come in many different forms. One can find high temp ductwork made of thermoplastics, silicone, and metals like stainless steel.

The levels of high temperatures handled by our high temperature hoses typically range between 275° F to 1650° F. The specific level of temperature endurance found in a hose depends on the material that the hose is made from.

The least temperature resistant materials are the thermoplastics. Thermoplastic materials are the result of a mixture of plastic and rubber compounds. A high temperature duct made from thermoplastic material can endure temperatures reaching up to 275° F. Next in line are the neoprene fiberglass hoses, which can withstand a slightly higher level of 300° F.

The ducts made of silicone can transfer air as hot as 550° F. Silicone is a popular and widely used compound for many different types of high temperature applications. Pharmaceutical and food packaging industries often prefer to use high temperature hoses made of silicone because of the non-chemical nature of the material.

Perhaps the most preferred and popular high temperature hoses are those made of metals. It is important to note that the exact level of heat tolerance will vary depending on the type of metal alloy used to make a particular hose. Aluminum hoses have the lowest rate of temperature resistance, being able to handle anything up to 400° F. Stainless steel hoses are a cut above almost every other high temp hose due to the levels of heat that they can withstand. A high temperature duct made of stainless steel can comfortably handle hot air up to 800° F. There is one specific variation of the stainless steel hose that uses a titanium alloy. It can be used with temperatures up to 1650° F, the kinds of temperatures seen in large-scale heavy-duty industrial furnaces!

Different industries will use different hoses depending on their own specific needs. Industrial factories employ high temperature hoses very regularly. Factories need to transfer heat from one area of the facility into another. In the case of an industry like plastics processing, targeted heat is required to mold and manipulate plastic material. The temperatures involved the processing of plastic materials can range anywhere from 400° F to 700° F. High temperature hoses make the job easier for the workers in these facilities because the ductwork can help guide the hot air into the necessary sections without putting anyone in harm’s way.

The same principle applies to large metalworking furnaces found in factories. A mass accumulation of hot air can lead to unsafe conditions in the workplace, so there needs to be a support system to ventilate that air away. It is not uncommon to find high temperature hoses made of stainless steel in such industrial areas.

Be aware that a resistance to extremely hot temperatures does not always translate to a resistance against burning. A product’s burn point is separate from the product’s operating temperature range. Burn point refers to the point at which a material will ignite when exposed to flames. It is possible for a high temperature duct to catch on fire. If you are looking for flame-retardant ductwork, make sure to check the specs to see if it is made with materials matching fire-resistant specifications.

The importance of high temperature hoses for industrial areas should never be underestimated. The sheer diversity of the materials they are available in and the range of their heat resistant capabilities make them suitable for almost any industrial application. Whether you have a metalworking furnace, plastics processor, a hood range, or are simply in need of new ventilation, consider using high temperature hoses.
